For the uninitiated, every Friday Crazy-for-Books hosts the “Book Blogger Hop, “a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and find new book-related blogs that we may be missing out on.” It’s a great opportunity to learn about and explore book blogs that may be new to you. I’ve found many, many great blogs by participating in The Hop.
I hope you’ll take a minute to look around and to leave a comment. Happy Blogging!
Question of the Week: Do you listen to music when you read?
This will be a short answer for me: no. I like it quiet when I read. I’ve tried everything from classical to New Age to rock, but none of it works for me. Too distracting!
Hi there again,
I’m hopping by to share some thoughts on music. I do read to music, sitting on the lounge at night, whilst the rest of the family watch TV. To block out the TV, I play music on the iTouch (not iTouch – not iPod cos I hate that stupid little wheel thing!).
I listen to everything from classical Indian ragas, through chill out lounge, jazz, folk -even Madonna and Lady Gaga.
I used to not be able to listen to music as I read, but for some reason as I’ve got older, that’s changed.
However, if I’m reading something for work (a professional journal) I can’t concentrate with music on and I have to have silence.
Kinda strange, but then, that’s me!

Hi there, visiting you from the Hop. I can never do without silence. Some books *need* to have a complementary soundtrack. Something in the background to keep me going.
But if needs be, I can read in silence.

Of course I don’t want to have my reading spoiled by music –or my music spoiled by reading.
I think it is so important to try to concentrate on what one is actually doing…..

I enjoy listening to music while I read, especially when I’m riding in a car. I don’t know how it works, but the music in the background helps me from getting motion sickness.
When I’m at home, I can go either way.
